Our co-workers are the ones who make us happy or sad during our professional working hours, they are the one who can give us relaxing moments or stressful moments.

Now a day’s professional environment has changed up to great extent, previously your entire evaluation or appraisal was done on the basis of your longer tenure with organization, the longer you stay with the organization the more loyal you considered and this single most quality assured you great promotion, pay hike & other perks.

Your successful, sweet & solid relationship with your immediate boss or supervisor can help you to climb the corporate ladder fast. If you manage that single fellow very well your half of the troubles and problems will be taken care by him/her, and if you unable to find the perfect tuning with him/her, it may jeopardize your job.

But in modern days entire style of management has changed. First of all sizes of the organizations has become very big, so, decision process has become decentralized, and that decentralized decision process has taken the power and authority from one person to many. So, now your immediate boss may not have power to upgrade or degrade you, but at the most he/she can provide feedback to the upper management regarding your performance. And one of the parameter of your performance may be your connection with your co-workers.

Connect With Your Co-Workers

1. BE FAMILIAR WITH YOUR CO-WORKER

First of all, when you enter in to new organization, make it point to be familiar with all your colleagues or co-workers. This is very common yet very powerful tips to connect with your co-workers. Because, now a day’s size of the organization has become very big and each organization has various departments, sub-departments etc. So, sometimes you have to make conscious efforts to be familiar with all your co-workers, many a times all the communication takes place through phone,intercom or mail,so,you hardly get any opportunity to meet the people face to face.

In this hectic schedule if you allot your precious time to be familiar with them,initiate conversation with them, your efforts are not going unnoticed,people around you understand that you like and love to be with unknown or unfamiliar person and it certainly help them to come forward to you for informal talks.Slowly & steadily it will built the bridge between you and them.

2. INITIALLY FOLLOW PROTOCOL

After, successful implementation of first step, now, at least, your co-workers are comfortable with your presence,many of them come to you for building long term relationship.

But,this is very delicate stage,because on one hand you are interested to be familiar with all of them,but you don’t know their like,dislike,nature etc.So,if you are not careful, this stage can be more harmful than helpful,because, from your each behavior they will start to analyze your personality and it may not truly reflect you.

So, for avoiding any confusion around your personality or before your co-worker labeled you as a arrogant, rude or any other type.

Be careful,initially follow the protocol or all the social norms which we learned in our childhood. Always practice common courtesy like respect to elders, respect to your seniors, while standing in a queue give priority to ladies.

These are  the standard protocol which never let you down,so,initially,play safe instead of jumping on relationship follow commonly used protocol.

3. BE FRIENDLY

After some time, now you have fair idea about the nature of the people around you, now your judgment ability will let you know to whom you should connect and to whom should you avoid.

Depending upon your judgment ability, your own experience, your intuitions and your hunch start to develop friendly relation with some of them,avoid some of them and ignore some of them, So, after this process,you have a really good,qualitative people around you.

4.SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE,EXPERTISE & KNOWLEDGE WITH OTHERS

During your previous job, during your previous assignment, during your previous business, during your study you might have learned many things some of them maybe unknown to the people around you,so, without any hesitation or having any ill feeling in mind share those valuable  information to the people around you,whenever got opportunity or chance to teach, do it,try to teach your co-workers and help them to up lift their performance. And for that do not miss single opportunity to encourage or empower them.

5. DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK FOR HELP AND OFFER TO HELP

Remember the old adage ‘as you sow as you reap’ same applies here too. Whatever you gives is same comes back to you.

So,whenever you feel your co-worker is passing through any physical, mental,social or financial rough time, go to him/her, listen them carefully and offer your genuine help,if you are unable to help him/her at least, listen with  complete sympathy express your deep concern about the matter.

At the same time, whenever find difficulty in any area without hesitation ask for the help,you will learn that people are more happy to help someone who needs his/her assistance.

6. STAY AWAY FROM GOSSIPING OR NEGATIVE COMMENTS

Never ever pass any negative comments about your co-workers in front of others, you do not know, who will tell what to the concern person and that bad mouth comments by you may spoil your relation and reputation.

So,as a golden rule always avoid gossiping or negative comments about your co-workers.

7. BE ADJUSTABLE TO WORK STYLE AND PERSONALITY STYLE OF OTHERS

While working on team one thing you will realize immediately each member of team has some unique working style and personality so, how to accommodate with them, how to adjust with them should be your prime concern,because for new comer like you no one can change their style but it is your responsibility to adjust with them.

8. CONSIDER CRITICISM AS A FEEDBACK

You are new to work, you are new to system, you are new to culture, you are new to organization so, despite of all sincere efforts it may be possible that many a times you may commit mistakes and that mistakes create problems for others and that situation you are bound to face the criticism,so,do not get angry or aggressive about the person who criticize you, but on the contrary thank him/her for providing you valuable feedback to improvise your work.
