BURNOUT

Many a times in our life we heard this word, Many a times we see the people suffering from it and many a times in our life we too become victim of this word.

Despite of it, still we are unable to explain what exactly is burnout.

DEFINITION OF BURNOUT

1. Feeling of physical and emotional exhaustion, due to stress from working with people under difficult or demanding conditions.

2. Burnout is a psychological term that refers to long-term exhaustion and diminished interest in work.

If burnout left unchecked and unnoticed it can be very much dangerous for your overall quality of life, because it not only deteriorate your performance on your professional front or job but it also cause lots of problems in your health, happiness and relationship.

So, as a saying ‘prevention is better than cure’ one has to pay attention on the signs of burnout. In order to catch burnout and combat cum defeat it as early as possible, it is very much important to know the signs or symptoms of burnout.

1. FEELING TIRED/EXHAUSTED ALL THE TIME

First and most significant sign of burnout is victim of it always feels tired and exhausted, he/she has hardly any energy to do any work, from their face expression, body language, gesture and posture one can easily make out the person is completely tired or exhausted. No sign of enthusiasm or zeal can be seen or found on his/her face and he/she too from their face expression clearly manifest that they are not in a mood to any prolong conversation.

Worst part of the burnout is not only physically it affects but emotionally it also affects, emotionally too you feel exhausted all the time.

2.FEELING SICK MOST OF THE TIME

During this phase, you feel sick all the time, common health related problems occur every now and then like lowered immunity which welcomes other viral & bacterial diseases. Not only that burnout cause frequent pain in back, headache, muscle aches. Due to burnout appetite increased or decreased up to great extent, Sometimes you may eat too much and sometimes you may even skip your regular lunch or dinner. Burnout also affects your sleeping habit in most severe manner either due to complete exhaust you may like to sleep or have a rest all the time or burnout may completely disturb your sleeping hours.

So, health related problems are one of the major sign of burnout.

3. UNABLE TO CONCENTRATE

Third, yet very visible symptom or sign of burnout is that the victim finds it very much difficult to concentrate on any matter. Lack of concentration, short memory span, unable to remember important matters are some of the physical manifestation of burnout.

Person finds it quiet difficult to hold the attention on one particular matter for longer period of time.

4. FREQUENT CHANGES IN MOOD

Frequently changing mood is also one of the major symptom of sign of burnout. Victim often finds it difficult to control over his/her mood and emotion. At some of point the person seems very much optimistic, sound optimistic, speaks optimistic but all of sudden his/her mood changes to great degree and negativity or pessimist approach takes centre stage of all his/her behavior, no one can with absolutely surety say how the person will behave in which situation.

5. NO MOTIVATION

 During phase of burnout victims feels no motivation or lack of motivation on every area of life. Person hardly finds enthusiastic or eager about any activities he/she does all the activities as their duties but without having any motivation behind it. Sometimes it becomes very much difficult to go to the work, because everything seems useless and lacks meaning behind of it.

6. POOR PERFORMANCE

Slowly & steadily your job performance deteriorate due to burn out, because physically exhaust condition hardly help you to put your 100% efforts and emotionally drained situation even worsen the circumstances and combining all put your performance on negative scale.

7. START TO BECOME LESS CARELESS ABOUT YOURSELF 

 During the phase of burnout many people engage in many unhealthy coping strategies and it clearly shows that you have become very much careless about yourself. The activities like start to consume too much alcohol, chain smoking, become very much careless about eating and all of sudden eating too much junk food. Do not follow the right schedule of eating or sleeping.

8. INTERPERSONAL OR RELATIONSHIP RELATED PROBLEMS INCREASE  AT HOME AND WORK

You may see sudden rise in hot arguments, bitter discussion, unnecessary quarrels etc. during the phase of burnout, your interpersonal problems increases up to the greatest extent, every now and then you find yourself in hot debate or argument with others or it may be completely different you may not at all interested in any talk but you completely detached yourself with all the stuff and would like to be alone.

9. YOU FEEL GUILTY

Despite of working hard and long hours still you start to feel guilty and in your inner mind you curse yourself for not doing enough or required work and that result in more work and more long hours at the work place.

10. NEGATIVE EMOTION TAKES CENTRE STAGE OF YOUR MIND   

Cynicism or frustration and many more negative emotions takes center stage of your mind, It reflects in your working style, body language and every action you take.
